During the last Intel Innovation 2023 summit, Unboxing Geeks has done an interview with Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim from Intel about the future of AI-merging in our everyday lives, companies, and even governments. Intel showed us a lot of AI new technologies, with “revolutionary” ways to interact with AI supported devices. Our interview was a Q&A type, as you can read below.

Ahmed Ibrahim, Director, Global Business Development – Service Providers

Could you elaborate on the role of semiconductor companies like Intel in supporting AI workloads? How important is chip technology in the AI ecosystem?

As artificial intelligence continues to change the world, Intel plays a critical role in supporting AI workloads by providing the foundation hardware for AI systems. We have recently introduced our Latent Diffusion Model for 3D (LDM3D), a novel diffusion model that uses generative AI to create realistic 3D visual content.

LDM3D has the potential to revolutionize content creation, as well as create digital experiences that will transform multiple industries. This underlines the importance of chip technology and the role it plays in the AI ecosystem, enabling the training and inference of AI models.

What steps is Intel taking to ensure that the AI technologies it develops are used responsibly and ethically?

With the launch of any new technology, we need to ensure services are made responsibly and ethically. Intel is currently open sourcing LDM3D through HuggingFace. This move promotes transparency and allows AI researchers and practitioners to improve the system further and fine-tune it for custom applications.

By sharing AI models openly, we encourage collaboration and scrutiny, which can help identify and address ethical concerns. This reiterates our commitment to responsible AI development and use.

Can you provide insights into Intel’s responsible AI pillars, particularly its approach to reviews, diversity and inclusion, privacy and security, and cross-sector collaboration?

Intel has multiple responsible AI pillars, including reviews, diversity and inclusion, privacy and security, and cross-sector collaboration. We are committed to a comprehensive approach towards responsible AI. The review system encompasses rigorous evaluations and assessments of the new AI models to ensure they meet ethical and safety standards.

Diversity and inclusion signify our dedication to building diverse teams and promoting fairness across AI development, while privacy and security indicate a focus on protecting user data and ensuring all AI systems are secure. Our cross-sector collaboration encourages all stakeholders to collectively address any challenges and identify additional opportunities in the AI ecosystem.

Could you explain why the transformation of AI technology will require an ecosystem-level approach, and what role Intel plays in this ecosystem?

With artificial intelligence playing a key role across multiple industries, it is important to look at the new technology from a bird’s eye perspective while understanding the impact it will have across the entire ecosystem.

Intel plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by providing hardware and open-sourced AI models such as LDM3D, which will impact the entertainment, gaming, architecture, and design industries. By launching the new model, we aim to encourage a broader community of researchers and developers to harness AI’s potential, fostering innovation, and expanding the reach of AI across different sectors.

What are some of the ethical challenges that Intel anticipates in the AI landscape, and how is the company preparing to address them?

With a dedication to open sourcing LDM3D and fostering a robust ecosystem, we are ready to address ethical considerations encompassing transparency, fairness, and AI safety.

As AI continues to evolve, ethical dilemmas may encompass issues such as bias in AI models, concerns about data privacy, and the responsible application of AI in sensitive domains. These are challenges that Intel is uniquely poised to tackle, thanks to its responsible AI principles.

As AI continues to evolve, how does Intel see the balance between innovation and ethical considerations in AI development?

Intel

We recognize the delicate equilibrium between innovation and ethical considerations within AI development. Our commitment lies in advancing AI technology while upholding responsible and ethical use. Through initiatives such as open sourcing AI models like LDM3D and emphasizing the pillars of responsible AI, we aspire to balance the equilibrium.

This approach not only fosters innovation by inviting a broader community to engage in AI development, but also effectively deals with ethical concerns, ensuring that AI’s advantages are harnessed in an ethical and responsible manner.
